Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Buyer to join our Purchasing team in Racine, Wisconsin. This role is responsible for procuring materials and commodities at the lowest total cost while meeting quality, delivery, and production requirements. The Buyer will manage supplier relationships, resolve supply chain issues, support inventory optimization, and collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure assigned materials and commodities to support production schedules and business needs
  • Balance inventory levels and costs through sound purchasing decisions
  • Maintain full ownership of assigned part numbers and supplier performance
  • Ensure material availability and proactively address potential supply chain disruptions
  • Resolve issues related to quality, delivery, expediting, receiving, and invoicing
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers; hold vendors accountable for quality, cost, and delivery
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements to drive cost reduction and performance improvements
  • Monitor and analyze supplier performance; initiate re-sourcing or dual sourcing when necessary
  • Maintain accurate part parameters and purchasing data within the ERP system (JDE or equivalent)
  • Leverage ERP tools (e.g., Supply & Demand, system messages) to identify issues and drive corrective actions
  • Partner closely with Engineering and Manufacturing on sourcing decisions, specifications, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
  • Participate in cross-functional and Daily Management meetings, providing data and insights as required
  • Support inventory reduction initiatives and cost control efforts across commodities
  • Work with Quality to resolve receiving inspection issues and recover costs for vendor-related scrap or rework
  • Visit key suppliers as needed to strengthen relationships and ensure alignment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • ERP system experience required (JDE preferred)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPM or CPIM certification
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Technical understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and machining
  • Demonstrated success driving supplier improvements in quality, delivery, and cost

Work Environment

  • Primary work location: Racine, Wisconsin
  • Occasional travel to key suppliers
