The Commodity Manager focuses on developing sourcing strategies to drive annual sourcing savings to help Twin Disc remain competitive in the marketplace. This position sets business strategy and develops tools to most effectively manage the supply of materials while also driving efficiency and productivity to keep department management costs down. This position will also support our new product development programs during the prototype and production release phases.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA or BS degree in Business, Engineering, or Accounting with at least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing new vendor sources

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate and interact with all departments and levels within Twin Disc Racine, as well as with outside vendors
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Technical Requirements:

  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing, materials, processes and machines including gears, shafts, and machine parts.

Job Functions

  • Set business strategies. Set overall priorities and communicate them; adjust as necessary. Create new tools to help manage supply of materials. Drive efficiency and productivity to keep department management costs down.
  • Investigate current and potential sourcing for items that have high levels of spend and/or impact on the business. Drive significant annual sourcing savings to help Twin Disc remain competitive in the marketplace.
  • Track cost savings, cost increases, and overall net cost changes for all vendors.
  • Develop, manage and drive Strategic Sourcing Funnel. Manage the shape and velocity of the funnel. Develop commodity strategies including vendor selection, number of vendors for materials and outside processing. Be able to articulate and justify supplier strategies.
  • Increase supply base by identifying, screening, qualifying and on-boarding new vendors. Identify potential suppliers through web searches, referrals, trade shows, trade associations, etc.
  • Develop Supplier Profile System in JDE for supplier data base management. Track supplier visits. Create a visit schedule, target frequency, owners, etc.
  • Personally negotiate critical contracts and pricing agreements and maintain personal relationships with most critical vendors. Price negotiations to optimize spend power. Track cost savings and cost increases and overall net cost changes for vendors owned.
  • Develop processes for rapid outsourcing as needed by Operations for capacity relief as well as processes to effectively support new product development and manufacturing readiness.
  • Leverage Twin Disc India strategic sourcing resources, as appropriate.
  • Develop target costs for components (“should costs”) to drive vendor accountability.
